Frequently asked questions about Dab
DAB product groups include centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps, self-priming jet pumps and pump controls. ESYBOX pressure boosting solutions are also available within the DAB assortment.
Make sure the pump can draw enough water and that no air enters the suction line, since air in the suction line can prevent the pump from reaching the required pressure and capacity. A centrifugal pump can draw water from a maximum depth of 8 metres — if groundwater is deeper, a well pump is required.
An above-ground centrifugal pump should be drained in winter to reduce the risk of freezing in the pump housing, by unscrewing the drain plugs so water can run out. A well pump can remain in the well during winter, and occasional longer running can help prevent it from getting stuck.
A pump can use a pressurised water system or another automatic start and stop system. With a pressure switch or regulator, the pump starts when pressure falls below the set value and stops at the maximum. With frequency control, the required pressure is set and maintained as demand changes.
Start by calculating the required litres per hour at the required pressure. Nozzle type, number of nozzles and sprinkler pattern determine total water demand. A pump curve table can then be used to select a matching pump — if the selected pump is too large, irrigation can be divided into two or more groups.
For a normal garden, a self-priming jet pump is often selected. For a larger field or nursery with larger sprinklers, a larger centrifugal pump can be a good choice. For large irrigation reels, a large well pump is often selected.
